Tricolored Herons are occasional visitors to the rookery. When seen, they are usually perched on the island, or in the bushes adjacent to the water.
Head: Slate blue.
Neck:
- Slate blue.
- White stripe down front.
- Purplish base.
Back: Slate blue.
Wings: Slate blue.
Belly: White.
Legs: Pink or yellow.
Bills: Yellow or gray, black tip.
They are typically about 2.5 feet tall, with wingspans a bit over 3 feet.
Tricolored Herons eat mostly small fish, shrimp, and other crustaceans.
