Pileated Woodpecker

Pileated Woodpeckers are commonly seen in tall trees east of the rookery.

Overall: Mostly black.
Head: Black, white, and red.
Legs: Black.
Feet: Black.
Bill: Black/white.

Their most distinguishing feature is their size. They are the biggest woodpeckers in North America.

Pileated Woodpeckers are typically up to about 1.5 feet tall, with wingspans approaching 2.5 feet.

Pileated Woodpeckers primarily eat insects, including ants and beatle larvae, but will also eat fruit, berries, and nuts.
