Green Heron

Green Herons are rare visitors to the rookery. Very difficult to spot, they are usually perched in the bushes adjacent to the water, or in bushes adjacent to the salt flat at the southeast corner of the property.

Green Herons are typically around 1.5 feet tall, and typically have wingspans of a bit more than 2 feet.

Green Herons are one of several species of herons that utilize bait. They drop twigs, feathers, and other small objects into the water to attract fish.

They eat small fish, shrimp and other crustaceans, water insects, and small amphibians and reptiles.
